Duwane Loren Hoeg was born July 2, 1931 at Zaneta, Iowa, son of Loren and Hattie Thomsen Hoeg. He was raised in Reinbeck where he attended school until the 9th grade and later graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1949. He then entered the United States Navy for 4 years, starting boot camp in San Diego. He was a electrician on the USS Princeton aircraft carrier in the Korean peninsula. After his discharge he began farming and was united in marriage to Beverly Keese at the Traer Methodist Church on September 18, 1957 recently celebrating 55 years of marriage. They made their home farming all their married life near Elberon and Traer and since 1963 have made their home on a farm east of Traer. Duwane raised livestock and operated a dairy until 2008 with the help of his family until his illness two years ago. He was a member of the Traer American Legion. He enjoyed following the activities of his children and grandchildren was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Vernon. He is survived by his wife Beverly, six children, Julie (Ernie) Cufr of Traer, Steve (Jill) Hoeg of Prior Lake, MN, Robert “Bob” (Andrea) Hoeg of Clive, IA, Michael “Mike” (Anne) Hoeg of Channahon, IL, Edward “Ed” (Brenda) Hoeg and Jeffrey “Jeff” (Lori) Hoeg both of Traer, and 17 grandchildren
