Clinton Eugene Sage was born on December 25, 1914, in Bennington Township, Iowa, the son of Russell and Hazel (Steely) Sage. Clinton graduated from Dunkerton High School and Iowa State College with a degree in Animal Husbandry. On November 27, 1941, he was united in marriage to Helen Scott in Mitchellville, Iowa. Helen died in February of 1987. In September of 1988, Clinton was married to Mary Penly Brennan in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Mary died in June of 2006. Clinton served his country in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946. He was a Captain and served three years in Pacific Theatre with the 245th Port Company Army Transportation Corps. Clinton worked as a salesman for Rath Packing and then farmed until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of Mount Hope United Methodist Church, the ISU Alumni Association, Black Hawk County School Board, Black Hawk County Farm Bureau, No Name Club, American Legion, Milk Producers Association, Pork Producers Association, Dunkerton Co-op, 4-H Club Leader, 4-H Fair Board, and Soil Conservation and Farm Management. He was also a member of the United States Dairy Judging Team that competed in Bristol, England, which in 1936 placed second of five teams. Clinton died at the age of 97 on Sunday, December 23, 2012, at Friendship Village in Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; a daughter, Linda Jean; two sisters, Irene Kramer Morgan and Mary Johns; and a brother, Harlan Sage. Clinton is survived by four children, Jeffrey (Vee) Sage of Waverly, Iowa, Susan Jett of Sugarland, Texas, Jane (Larry) Heimerl of Hopkins, Minnesota, and Sandra (Tom) Morris of Bristol, Indiana; three step children, Karen (Ruedi) Good of Sherman, Texas, John ( Karen Jane) Brennan of Sherman, Texas, and Patty (Tom) Matthews of Sugarland, Texas; eight grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; eighteen step great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two brothers in law, Charles Johns of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Bill Penly of Sherman, Texas; and a sister in law, Marlys Sage of Madison, Wisconsin. Clinton was a loving husband and loving father. Farming, family, faith, and friends became the mainstay of his life.
