Mary L. Bisbee of Bettendorf, formerly of Waterloo, was born on June 28, 1928 in Norwich, Connecticut: the daughter of Francis and Helen (Strenkowski) Podurgiel. She was united in marriage to Rex Bisbee on March 16, 1946 in Norwich, Connecticut; he preceded her in death on July 27, 2009. Mary worked for Travelers Insurance then retired from Heritage National Health Plan, formerly John Deere Health Care, in 1988. She was a member at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and active in Bible Study. She enjoyed camping, playing cards, was an avid reader and was a longtime women’s bowling league member. Mary was a Brownie leader for her daughter’s troops. She loved playing games with her children and grandchildren. She was a mentor with the Waterloo Community Schools helping children read at Lincoln Elementary School and received the Volunteer of the Year Award.
Mary passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013 in Bettendorf, at the Iowa Masonic Health Facilities at the age of 84. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rex; her parents; a grandson, Adam and a half-brother Frank Podurgiel. She is survived by her 2 daughters: Becky (Roger) Thompson of Waterloo, Iowa and Mari Lynn (Dale) Thompson of Maple Grove, Minnesota; a son Jeff (Nancy) Bisbee of Bettendorf, Iowa; 8 grandchildren: Christopher (Heather), Carolyn (Dan), Cynthia (Mike), Brad, Michele (Tyler), Allison (Jake), Stefanie (fiancé Jon) and Emily; a great-grandson, Samuel and 2 half-brothers Les and Bob Andrew.
